She spent the winter once again in Greece on the Struma River near Kerkini National Park. Skierka set off for Poland on March 3, and two days later she was already in Hungary. She will probably appear on her nest soon.

"SKIERKA, najsłynniejsza w Europie samica bociana czarnego właśnie dziś powróciła ze stałego greckiego zimowiska - szerokiej doliny rzeki Struma w pobliżu Kerkini Nathional Parc. Zimowała tam już szósty raz. Nad Strumą spędziła 143 dni. Wystartowała z Grecji 3 marca o godzinie 9:00, wylądowała w Polsce przy gnieździe w Nadleśnictwie Bolewice 11 marca o godz. 14:00. To jej czwarty sezon lęgowy. Nie wiemy, gdzie i z jakim samcem przystąpi do lęgu. Jednak życzymy jej powodzenia!

SKIERKA, the most famous female black stork in Europe, has just returned today from its permanent Greek wintering place - the wide valley of the Struma River near Kerkini Nathional Parc. It was the sixth time she had wintered there. She spent 143 days on the Struma. She took off from Greece on March 3 at 9:00 a.m. and landed in Poland at the nest in the Bolewice Forest District on March 11 at 14:00. Of course, she wasn't flying all the time during those 8 and a half days. It rested at night, fed in the morning and then continued through North Macedonia, Serbia, Hungary and Slovakia. She covered approximately 1,400 km in a straight line.
Skierka hatched from an egg in the Bolimowska Forest in central Poland in 2017. We then set up a footlogger as part of the BocianiMy w Lasach project, which has been operating for seven years! Skierka is already an experienced female, she started breeding for the first time in 2021 in the Wolsztyn Forest District. In 2022-2023, it nested successfully in two different nests in the Bolewice Forest District. This is her fourth breeding season. We do not know where and with which male it will breed. However, we wish her good luck!
