Sadly, Waluś is dead!

The young two-year-old black stork, rescued by people, died a few days ago because of people, electrocuted on a medium-voltage power line near Czarnocin, close to Łódź.
Waluś was a stronger stork than Kinderek and quite quickly began an independent life. For nearly two months, he was flying over ditches and field ponds within a radius of 15–18 km northeast of the release site, which was the Forest Center in Koło. In total, he flew about 950 km. He even once made a trip south and ended up near the village (ironically named) Africa in the Łódź province.
The problem of the "wired" landscape affects hundreds of thousands of kilometers of overhead power lines managed by various operators. Unfortunately, some of the poles are of old design—with vertical insulators and wires on top—and it was on such a pole, where he landed for the night among fields, that Waluś met his end.
We will attempt to retrieve the stork’s body from the pole to give a second life to the GPS-GSM logger. We will also request that the operator, PGE, rebuild this pole to make it safer for birds.
