Laying with five eggs is rare, especially in central Poland, where there are few vast and marshy forests. So far, we knew that we had a super male in our nest - Florentino. Now we know that we still have a super female - Fermina3, because the amount of laying in storks depends mainly on the quality of the female and her current condition.

Jak długo bocian może wytrzymać bez zmiennika? Czy jeden bocian (czarny oczywiście) może sam zająć się zniesieniem? Nasz Florentino wrócił w poprzednim sezonie po 27 h. Nie ma w tym nic nadzwyczajnego - jak określił prof. Zieliński. Tak było już w naszych gniazdach i w innych również.

How long can a stork last without a substitute? Can one stork (black of course) take care of the laying by itself? Our Florentino came back in the previous season after 27 hours. There is nothing extraordinary about it - as prof. Zielinski. This was the case in our nests and also in others.

What happened at the Nest?
On May 9th our couple for a change was tolerated. During the whole day, storks changed in sitting up to 6 times. At 12:55 Florentino laid his balls. At 12:55:57 you could see a shadow flying to the left above the stork's nest. But it wasn't a return to the Fermina's nest. The farm flew from the bottom right side and at 12:56:20 it landed on the nest. Florentino's egg-laying Florentino has previously noticed an intruder - a stranger male - and began to intensely scare him away. Fermina also joined the scare away. The stranger stork did not fly away, it sat somewhere not too close to the nest, but at 12:57:33 it was closer. Strongly concerned Florentino spread his wings covering the suspension. He knew well that if a foreign male decides to attack, it won't be a gentle landing on a nest. The farm also spread its wings. But the foreign male stayed on the branch. A moment later he had to move because Florentino, fearing the 12:58:20 attack, spread his wings again covering the abolition. A stranger male watched the nest for a while, but did not decide to attack. He didn't leave until 1:30pm. Annoyed Florentino at 13:07:18 he flew out to check if the threat had already passed, and the calmer Fermina sat on his balls at 13:07:45. Florentino returned to the nest at 13:07:53. Gone off again at 13:08:19. At some point he was still flying over the nest (you could hear it) and only later he flew away to eat.
Our couple's clearly intimidating behavior, in particular Florentino, resulted in a stranger stork not to risk an attack and fly away. During stork fights, the eggs are often destroyed. Destroying the tolerance at such a late stage would mean the loss of our entire breeding season for our couple. Florentino once again worked as a nest defender.
