UDU is offspring of Karl II and Kaia, hatched 2021 (Pikne's sibling)

youtube chat info (info by our Madli):
Udu sent data! (not yet available on the birdmap). Udu spent the winter in CAR

I got this information

Udu's battery status: 0%.
From that reason stork (his transmitter) cannot send new data until the transmitter's battery is charged

About Udu I was informed by Ornitela that last GSM signal is got from south Turkey, somewhere around Iskanderun. But no more data as battery is empty.

So he was alive at the time, and I believe that at least this young stork will continue to be successful

Post by Anne7 » August 4th, 2022, 11:16 am https://www.looduskalender.ee/forum/vie ... 62#p873062 :

"Ornitela was able to determine that Udu's transmitter tried to send data from Turkey until 29 June. Next, on 5 July there were a few connections from Bosnia and Herzegovina and since 14 July Udu is reported to be in northern Italy, between Milan and Turin.

Urmas writes to us:
... As far as I understand, Udu is located somewhere between the mountain valley villages of Cossato and Valle Mosso. Nearby are several reservoirs and perhaps a few streams. Although it is an extremely dry year in northern Italy.
The solar panels of Udu's transmitter seem to be dirty and there is no power (empty battery) to transmit exact locations. Let's hope the transmitter will be washed in deep water soon ... "

ornitela maps in that post

Udu's stay - see the two radiant blue dots (that's how I know it from Anitra maps)

such a circle probably marks the place of Udu's overnight stay (that's how I know it from Anitra maps)

"Udu is located somewhere between the mountain valley villages of Cossato and Valle Mosso"

The valley starts from the mountains where it meets with Cervo Valley and Sessera Valley; going southwards it encompasses a wide, hilly area and ends near Cossato a little before the confluence of the Strona (23 km long creek) in the Cervo (65-kilometre long torrent = a form of seasonally intermittent stream). Cossato https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cossato
Valle Mosso https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valle_Mosso + (better: https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valle_Mosso)

UDU managed to send one location point on OrniTrack.
He is currently situated at the same place as the last data (14 July) and spent the night of 6.-7. august somewhere between Cossato and Rovasenda.

Previous data: 14.07.22 On the area between Cossato and Valle Mosso.
New data: 06.08.22 Wider area between Cossato and Rovasenda, northern ITALY.

Rovasenda is a comune in the Province of Vercelli in the Italian region Piedmont, located about 70 kilometres northeast of Turin and about 25 kilometres northwest of Vercelli.

Continuation..

WHERE THERE’S EUROPEAN RICE, NATURE SMILES

In Europe, rice growing is in harmony with the environment.
Though the result of human intervention, the ecosystems created by paddy fields respect nature, and comply with the strict European regulations on environmental protection [...] The use of sustainable agricultural techniques protects the habitats of numerous animal and plant species, and preserves the ecological balance of wetlands [...] Rice paddy fields are functional ecosystems for the life and reproduction of a rich and complex fauna, composed of insects, crustaceans, molluscs, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals, which all find their habitat in the vast expanses of water formed when the ground is flooded in spring.

A few images from that web-page of various birds feeding on rice fields.

UDU is a smart storklet and may have found a very good feeding place.
