Timmu spends time in relatively small area. According to calculation, Timmu's total daily route is in average 7 km. Going for night rests near the quarries and searching for food in the nearby Wudi Gemzu river. Timmu also went to a new place, a small river near the quarries.
Timmu's most recent area of activity since the last update.

Birdmap update:
Previous data: 07.01.22. Distance 7107 km. Metema district in the North Gondar Zone, Amhara National Regional State, NW Ethiopia.
New data: 21.01.22. Distance 7274 km(+167km/14 days) Same area.
Timmu is visiting his usual places along the Wudi Gemzu river for the most of the time, but now he flew to a new area in east. The whole area is filled with a network of small rivers. From a map in Marika's post, I think that the river in the new area is a connection to a river called Wedi Ambeso...that's just my guess since this river or name doesn't exist on any other maps..

As we see from the picture, the area is already familiar to him from the last year. Purple line marks the migration 2020.

Birdmap update:
Previous data: 21.01.22. Distance 7274 km. Metema district in the North Gondar Zone, Amhara National Regional State, NW Ethiopia. New location east from main area.
New data: 22.01.22. Distance 7299 km(+25km). Same area, back in the previous location in main area.
Timmu took a longer route to return to the previous location. He went back to a small river section near the quarries, which he visits a lot for feeding. For the night, he returned to his usual spot.
This is the two days in a row when we get data...is the GSM connection improving in this area somehow?
I am also curious about the big black areas/spots on the map. What could they be?

Re: TIMMU - adult male BS
Hi Marika.
Yes, I read about this. Slash-and-burn method is used in this area to improve soil quality. But I wasn't sure so I didn't mention it.
I guess I could do more research on that topic
Thanks, have a nice Sunday.

Madli,
without evidence, these are always just our assumptions although they may be based on some knowledge - that's why I wrote "most probably".
(I read about burning in Ethiopia years ago when I read about the forest churches in Ethiopia and this year when I was looking for information about the Mare's area again.)
You may find relevant and / or interesting information hopefully also here https://open.uct.ac.za/bitstream/item/1 ... sequence=1 about the area where Timmu moves (in this document is the village called Wodi Gemzu in Metema woreda - maybe it will be "our"/Timmu's area)
I wish you a successful research for information

Hello everyone.
After some quick research I have made some discoveries from different sources about the burned land seen from the map in Timmu's area.
