Birdmap update 13.10.21

Previous data: 12.10.21. Distance 2303km(+39km). Near Crivesti and Gefu.
New data: 13.10.21. Distance 2436 km(+133km) Lake Tălăbasca near Hanu Conachi and Tudor Valdimiresku, Galaţi County, Romania.

Katrin probably left her two ponds definitively, flew in to check and say goodbye to them, and probably set off. ;)

About Lake Tălăbasca:
It is located on the administrative territory of Tudor Vladimirescu commune, respectively in the major bed of the lower course of the Siret river with an area of ​​139 ha. It is a freshwater meadow lake in the Inferior Siret Plain,
fed from Pălâul Cãlmătui but also from underground springs. The flora is characteristic of wetlands and is represented by reeds, rushes, sedges and others that provide shelter for sedentary pond birds as well as
for the other species of pond fauna. The species that nest in the reeds of the pond are the little egret, duck, the eurasian coot. Ichthyofauna is represented by species specific to water lakes: golden crucian carp, pike, redfin perch.

KATRIN continuation

Lake Talabasca is a nature protection area, part of the Lunca Siretului Inferior- Natura2000.

It has habitats that host invertebrate and vertebrate species specific to aquatic ecosystems. Many of them are under the protection of international conventions and European biodiversity directives:

amphibians: the green lake frog (Rana ridibunda), the small lake frog (Rana esculenta), the crested newt (Triturus cristatus), the newt (Triturus vulgaris), the red-bellied pond ox or the spring (Bombina bombina)
reptiles: the snake (Natrix natrix)
mammals: the water rat (Arvicola terrestris) as well as the bison (Ondatra zibethica), the fox (Vulpes vulpes), the rabbit (Lepus europaeus).
In all seasons, both on the shores of the ponds, in the water, but also near the dam, molluscs represented by shells (water shell - Anodonta cygnaea) and gastropods (Planorbis corneus, Limnea truncatula) were observed.

During the migration, important flocks of waterfowl are registered in this area. Among them we mention: herons (Ardeola ralloides, Egretta garzetta, Egreta alba, Ardea purpurea), storks (Ciconia nigra, Ciconia ciconia), threskiornithide (Plegadis falcinellus, Platalea leucorodia), ducks (Cygnus olor, Anser erifyth) goose, Anas crecca, Anas querquedula, Aythya ferina, Aythya nyroca), ralide (Fulica atra), charidriiforme (Himantopus himantopus, Recurvirostra avosetta, Vanellus vanellus, Philomachus pugnax, Limos limosa, Tringa totanus), laride (Larus ridern) Sterna hirundo, Chlidonias hybridus), hirundinide (Riparia riparia, Hirundo rustica), sylviide (Acrocephalus sp.)

Mare stayed in her first wintering area in Africa (Gezira area), there are again data (only today localisations)

Mare's localisation at 15.30 is on one irrigated field - the second pic is the nearby 'Uraq (the big green "pool" is hafir dam - reservoir/water harvesting)

you can choose the language -click on "Home" and next you see above the little window "Select language" - also eng

Talabasca Pond is a natural reservation from Siret river plain, situated in Tudor Vladimirescu commune from Galati county. It is included in the Lower Siret Everglade natural reservation. The pond has a surface of 139 hectares and is populated with various species of birds and animals specific to high humidity areas.

Tălăbasca Marsh is very nice and good area for Katrin :-)
