Plānojot mežu apsaimniekošanu, AS “Latvijas valsts meži” (LVM) plānotājs Emīls Elksnītis LVM Ziemeļlatgales reģiona Balvu iecirknī pamanīja lielu ligzdu apsē.
Aptuveni 80 % no Latvijā zināmajām melno stārķu ligzdošanas vietām atrodas AS „Latvijas valsts meži” apsaimniekotajos mežos. Lai plānotu atbilstošus aizsardzības pasākumus un novērtētu populācijas dinamiku, kas pēdējās desmitgadēs ir negatīva, tiek veikts ligzdu apdzīvotības un ligzdošanas sekmju monitorings. Pērn veiktajā monitoringā stārķu ligzdošana konstatēta 56 ligzdās jeb 49 % no visām stārķu apmeklētajām ligzdām.

While planning forest management, JSC "Latvijas valsts meži" (LVM) planner Emīls Elksnītis noticed a large nest in an aspen tree at the LVM North Latgale region's Balvu area. Upon inspection of the nest, three young black storks were found in it.

To protect the habitat, a territory with a ban on forestry activity and a buffer zone with limited economic activity during the nesting period have been created. The number of black storks in Latvia has decreased significantly, so the protection of each habitat is an important contribution to the preservation of this rare species. LVM employees find around 20 new black stork nests every year, which are protected and included in the monitoring program

About 80% of the known black stork nesting sites in Latvia are located in the forests managed by AS "Latvijas valsts meži". In order to plan appropriate protection measures and assess the population dynamics, which have been negative in recent decades, monitoring of nest population and nesting success is carried out. Last year's monitoring found stork nesting in 56 nests, or 49% of all nests visited by storks.

#bocianyczarneonline 🎬 RING 2022
In the current breeding season in the forests of central Poland, together with foresters from RDSF in Łódź, we checked 46🧐 black stork nests!
👨‍🏫25 nests were empty, and the rest were occupied to varying degrees. Most often there were 2 or 3 chicks in the nests.
In total, in the occupied nests we ringed 32 chicks of black stork🖤.
Moreover, in the forest districts: Kutno State Forest District, Piotrków State Forest District, Kolumna State Forest District, Złoczew State Forests District, Bełchatów State Forest District, Smardzewice State Forest District and Spała State Forest District, 12 chicks have been equipped with GPS / GSM transmitters for tracking bird migration.
