The older chicks are standing on the edge of the nest, looking outside. K3 is not interested in this yet.

bill fencing is very essential in their life

edit:
years ago one zoologist/ethologist answered to me, that it is also a way for them to exchange saliva in order to identify themselves as relatives in the future
