Stork was located directly under the wiring, not far from the column with the horizontal bracket (see photo). These so-called columns of death were only there approx. 3 (branch line to the buildings around Horní rybník.)

FRANCE - Spain, BS named DIVONA

Black Stork Divona was found dead in Spain :(

Since 2015, the GPS tag that Divona was fitted with had been transmitting continuously, allowing the tracking of this Black Stork, which had become the emblem of the National Forest Park. But in early October 2024, the tag had been transmitting for several days in the same place, in a semi-desert area in northern Spain, in the province of Navarre. This unusual transmission led the teams of the European Black Stork Monitoring Network to note in the field that Divona had been predated in flight by a Golden Eagle, then by a Red Fox on the ground.
Research into the causes of the bird's death was organized thanks to the network of European Black Stork ringers. The predation took place in the Parque Natural de las Bardenas Reales.

Divona had been monitored since 2010 by the ringing program no.320, registered with the CRBPO and managed by ACETAM in the person of Frédéric CHAPALAIN. This male was ringed a nestling at the nest in June 2010 by an ONF team in the commune of Vivey (52) then closely monitored by the Black Stork team of the ONF Haute-Marne, in partnership with the LPO and the National Park after its creation.

Always faithful to his home range, he has changed nests and partners several times, probably as a result of the successive disappearances of his partners. Jean-Jacques BOUTTEAUX and Jérôme BERNARD of the ONF, and the field team monitored 9 nestings of this bird, producing 23 juveniles.

The migration period is a proof for the birds that each year take the road to regions with milder winter weather. Divona disappeared after 5195 days of tracking, or more than 14 years and as many successful trans-Saharan migrations. This is the 3rd Black Stork equipped with a GPS tag that has died in two years. Sylvana, Divona's last mate, is now the only Black Stork currently equipped with a GPS tag in the National Park.

This situation illustrates the fragility of this threatened and protected species and therefore the crucial importance of the conservation actions carried out by the National Forest Park.

Although sad, predation by an eagle is more acceptable than a collision with a wind turbine or worse, still poaching.

Exactly what I was thinking. At least it's a "natural" death.

FRANCE - BS named FANGORN

more next days - done
https://www.facebook.com/parcnationalde ... RXgKX5a7Gl

Black stork | Disappearance of Fangorn
We received some very sad news earlier this week. On Monday 12 August, the remains of a Black Stork were found at the foot of an electricity pylon in the commune of Recey-sur-Ource. The GPS tag found identified the Black Stork Fangorn, which had been tracked since 2022 by the National Park and its partners.
Following the report, the sector's warden immediately went to the Creuse farm, where the body was found. The day before, at the foot of an electricity pylon, the farmer had found the remains of a Black Stork while mowing his field, including legs and rings. A few feathers and a GPS tag with a number on it were used to identify Fangorn. Fangorn had been monitored for two years as part of personal ringing programme number 320 filed with the Centre de recherches sur la biologie des populations d'oiseaux (CRBPO) by ACETAM, in partnership with the LPO, Nature Nièvre and the LPO-ONF national coordination body, using a GPS tag funded by the Parc national de forêts.
All the evidence suggests that Fangorn was electrocuted when he collided with the electricity pylon: its configuration as a junction of 2 medium-voltage 3-wire lines makes it a very risky area. He was very familiar with this area, which he had been visiting for at least 2 years and where he had nested the previous year.

After spending six months in West Africa, the black stork Fangorn has returned safely from its winter quarters. Departing from Guinea, the bird, which has taken up residence in the Côte-d'Or territory of the Parc national de forêts, will have flown 4,500 kilometers to reach the two continents. 🪹 Today, it's already time for it to get busy on its nest!
