A fundamental part of the project concerns the placement of a special camera near two nests. The first nest, now considered "historic" because it has been used successfully by a couple for years, is in the Castelmezzano area and the second is in the Oliveto Lucano area.
Thanks to the images collected, which are available and visible to everyone live, researchers will be able to acquire data useful for studying the behavior of storks at the nest, the times of their arrival, reproduction, reproductive success, feeding, fledging of young people, etc.
Of course, improvements can be made every year in order to optimize the scientific results and dissemination of images through the Internet.
Oliveto Lucano is a town and comune in the province of Matera, in the Southern Italian region of Basilicata.

We at #parcogallipolicognato have always liked to celebrate the 8th of March with the arrival of the #cognanera We've been down for various reasons for two years, but finally the Black Stork webcams in our Park are back. And they turned out great!
In the past two years we have monitored another nesting site of this fascinating and rare species for Italy and so our Park confirms to be a precious chest of natural biodiversity. A new couple is nesting among the rocks of #olivetulucano. Starting today you can deepen your knowledge of the Black Stork of the Gallipoli Regional Park Cognato Piccole Dolomites Lucane on the website https://cicognaparcogallipoli.it and observe Oliveto Lucano's nest 24 hours a day here: https://cicognaparcogallipoli.it/cicogna_nera_oliveto...
But we’ll do even better: because the stork is a migratory species that spends the winter in sub-Saharan Africa, we’ll soon monitor the lengthy migrations between Europe and the African continent, through the use of GPS tools that will help us understand the migration strategies of this rare and endangered species, yet little widespread. in our own country.
Enjoy and welcome back Black Stork!
