16.21 FEEDING (8) Kaia serves a big pile of little black things - tadpoles? Or lampreys..most important is that both chicks ate well and it was the right food for them.

It sounds like the third chick is almost out from the shell..? Very loud and sharp "barking".
Too bad there's nothing to see from behind this high wall of moss

17.37 The third egg has a bigger crack now. Some progress.


The 4th egg is silent.

19.01 The top of the egg shell is moving. It's probably cracked all the way and the chick will be out soon!
Kaia rolls the egg, Yes! The top lid is open, now it needs a big stretch from the chick inside

19.12 Looks like the THIRD CHICK is fully out from the shell!

19.36 The little one is so tiny...and still wet from the birth.


19.37 The bigger chicks are begging for food- one of them thinks it's a good idea to poke its newborn sibling..




The older chicks are chirping and begging, pecking the moss and even the egg shell, but Kaia doesn't feed yet. She arranges some moss and covers the chicks.

19.51 Kaia rolls the eggs, the third chick is hidden behing the moss, deep in the nest. Kaia doesn't remove the broken egg shells, instead she pushes them deeper into the nest.

21.16 Karl comes home! Kaia greets him and leaves.
Kaia's nest duty was 6 h 19 min.

The bigger ones are begging for food.

21.18 FEEDING (10) Karl offers very little food to the chicks. But both manage to eat something.
