Nurme's transmitter has not been working reliably since last autumn's migration. This season, the last data point was received shortly after he crossed the Sea of Marmara. We now wait to see if the transmitter will reconnect in spring.

Nurme has crossed the Sea of Marmara a total of five times during tracked migrations. Only twice did he fly directly across the open sea. In the other three migrations — including this autumn — he chose the eastern route, flying over the southern edge of the Bosporus and continuing over the Gulf of İzmit and Lake İznik into Anatolia.

During the four migrations we have on record, Nurme crossed the Gulf of İskenderun using two different strategies: Twice, he flew directly across the gulf. The other two times, he cut across the northwestern corner of the bay and continued overland by flying over the Nur Mountains (Nur Dağları) — also known as the Amanos or Gâvur Mountains — before heading south toward Syria respectively the Levant region (the Syria–Lebanon–Israel corridor).
