- The area hosts one of the largest habitats of the summer snowflake (Leucojum aestivum) in Southern Bulgaria, and it is also one of the richest in alkaloid galanthamine content in the country. The site is located in a riverine floodplain forest consisting of narrow-leaved ash (Fraxinus angustifolia subsp. oxycarpa) and field elm (Ulmus minor) along the Maritsa River — natural habitats that fall under Annex 1 of the Biodiversity Act as "priority" for conservation.
