Nest Activity Log 08/07/2026
1/ 09:25 feeding by Zica
2/ 09:47 feeding by Natalio
- 13:14:14 one curious chicks make noises with the camera equipment (maybe)
- chicks chirped time to time, we observed the typical circle and wing flapping, but nobody arrived to the nest
- 15:07 Wing-flapping and balance exercise performed by one of the chicks near the edge of the cliff.
3/ 18:08 feeding by Zica
Notes on chick behaviour:
The chicks spent significant portions of the day preening, resting, and engaging in light wing exercises. Their metabolic output (droppings and pellet ejection) appeared lower during peak heat hours, which is typical for nesting black storks managing thermal stress in arid environments.

How much water can a Black Stork bring to the nest in one go?
Black storks primarily carry water in their oesophagus and crop (the widened part of their gullet), which allows them to transport significantly more than just what fits in their beak.
According to ornithological studies and camera observations, the water volume per trip is estimated as follows:
- An average load: A mature stork can easily bring around 100 to 200 ml of water at a time (roughly one full glass).
- Maximum capacity: During extreme heatwaves, when parents are highly motivated to cool down the nest, they can stretch their throat capacity to deliver up to 250 to 300 ml of water in a single flight.
