04.28 Good morning Karl. Camera is now in day mode.

07.53 Kaia arrives! Smooth exchange on the egg duty. Karl stands up and leaves, Kaia makes a quick PS and continues incubation.
Karl's incubation shift was 14 h 15 min.

10.12 Kaia in the sunshine


12.15 It started raining. It's only a short shower, lasting a few minutes.
12.17 The rain turned into a hail! I think it's not visible on the photo...


13.44 Kaia starts to observe something over the nest. She does this for over 20 minutes..

14.38 After taking care of the eggs, Kaia also arranges and spreads some material around.


She pokes a hole through a dry leaf and it gets stuck to her bill


She is able to shake it off a few minutes later.

15.24 Karl comes home! She was startled a little because she didn't expect Karl to appear so fast from behind her back. Both preen eachother for a moment. Kaia doesn't move away, instead she sits back on the eggs.


It's been a long time since they both stayed in the nest together for a while

15.32 Karl picks up a twig and relocates it on the other side of the nest. Kaia stands up.
Kaia's incubation shift was 7 h 39 min.


15.32 Karl moves closer to the eggs and starts to peck the moss on the edge of the nest bowl. Kaia scolds him...


15.33 Kaia flies away.
15.33 Karl continues incubation.

Karl arrived early today...a few hours earlier than his normal exchange time. It's going to be a long shift for him!
