to the east is the Braţul Borcea /Borcea Arm - separates from the river in the Călăraşi-Ostrov region and joins the Danube near the Giurgeni locality
more to the south in the south-eastern extremity of Ialomita County (in the Danube Meadow) and the north-eastern area of Calarasi County is the Brecea Arm protected area (SPA)

20 Aug 2024 "Sectors on the Danube River and its arms (Macin. Borcea, Chilia, Tulcea and Sulina), related to 49 localities are in the warning-warning phase, namely:
Danube River – between Braila – Galati, on the related sectors of two localities (Braila county), between Vadu Oii - Brăila, on the sectors related to 7 localities (Braila county), between Chiciu-Vadu Oii (amounts Chiciu), on the related sectors of five localities rivers (Gălărași county), between Chiciu-Cenavodă-Hârșova,(tulcea county) for population, irrigation, industry, fish farming;
Borcea Arm - between Chiciu – Vadu Oii, on the related sectors of nine coastal localities (Galarasi and Ialomița counties) for irrigation and industry;
Măcin Arm – on the related sectors of 10 riversided localities (1 locality in Brăila County, 9 localities in Tulcea County), is in the warning-warning phase for the population, irrigation, industry, fish farming; ..."
