Some morning activities: preening, observing the surroundings and stretching

06.56 Kaia comes home! She feeds the chicks (1)






06.57 Kaia jumps on the lower branch.

07.47 Kaia hasn't left yet. The chicks see her there and they keep twittering. Only now they calmed down and settled to resting


07.56 The chicks are starting to feel hot already. They are chirping for water.
Kaia hears them. She jumps into the nest. The chicks really want a drink!






07.59 Kaia flies out. I think she got the message.

08.03 Kaia brings wet moss and water for the chicks! She showers them.




08.05 Kaia leaves.

08.09 Kaia is back with more wet and cold moss and some water. She showers the chicks and the nest.

08.16 Kaia comes back for the third time to bring some material and water.

08.23 Karl arrives. Nice greetings with Kaia. She leaves.

11.12 Karl brings some wet grass and gives the overheated chicks a good shower and drink.
11.16 More wet grass and a little water.
11.21 Karl is back again with more water.
He drips the water on the chicks and on thr nest. I noticed that the chicks lay down to make their necks wet. It's a bigger area to make the body heat separate and helps them to cool down.
11.27 Karl is back for the 4th time with wet grass and water! Such a thoughtful dad!
11.37 Karl brings a bigger tuft of moss and a little water.

These hot days are very hard for the little ones. They are not very active and they are breathing very heavily. At least there is some shade in the nest now, not direct sunlight.
